A neighbor who will happily return balls hit into their yard is a great neighbor. And to answer the question, probably Steve Balboni, Jim Eisenreich, or Mike Macfarlane.

Paul was a really good guy. And I definitely remember hitting a moonshot or two as Balboni, and striking out way more than that trying too hard to hit a moonshot. But if you're gonna be Balboni, you gotta swing for the fences, right?

I did love playing as Joe Carter. I remember hitting a walk off HR with him and doing the same celebration he did in game 6 of the WS! I loved playing on that field. Even when we got older and check swings turned into Home Runs. Ken Griffey Jr. Mark McGwire, Cal Ripken, Ryne-O, Hough, Maddux. Even though it was "pretend", getting to be your childhood heroes was something amazing that I will never forget. Oh, and that left handed HR by Herr, it was a bomb. I knew it was gone before you made contact. That's how pretty the swing was.

Me & Herr are cosmically connected by that swing. Too bad he has no idea. What's weird to me after talking to people about this online, is that no one else seems to have any idea what I'm talking about when I bring up the criss-cross rule. Everybody knows ghost runners, everybody pretended to be their favorite players, but no else seems to have used criss-cross throws. It wasn't just us in grandpa's yard- I definitely remember using it during neighborhood games when we were short-handed- but maybe it was an Atchison-Effingham specialty.
