Love that you put the Astros on there. I was always a fan of those uniforms when I was growing up. Oakland at #1 is cool. I think I would have went 1. Houston. 2. Chicago WS. 3. Pittsburgh 4. Oakland 5. San Diego with the Cubs a close 6th.

As a White Sox fan, I am glad you gave the block letter SOX jerseys some love! I also love those A's uniforms, a throwback Rickey Henderson jersey is a purchase I will someday make!

The Sox seem to either have truly great uniforms or incredibly awful ones (the less said about their shorts from 70s,the better),with no room for anything between. I'm not sure I properly appreciated the SOX unis at the time, but they've aged really well. Glad the Sox decided to bring them back as Sunday home alternates a few years back.

Also, you can never go wrong with anything related to Rickey!

I do regularly wear the dark blue SOX hat from those 70s uniforms, but yeah, the jersey was terrible! Right before that was the red that Dick Allen made look so cool. Really hit and miss!

Well done, Patrick, and fun to read and remember! I never did a uni overview for the 'Stros, although I wanted to! I've highlighted all their hype songs and mascots thru the decades, but not the unis. Speaking as one who grew up with them all (I was 7 when the 'chise was born in '62!), I can certainly pinpoint my LEAST favorite uni....the gold and navy '90s monstrosity (the Bags'n'Bidge era), 1994-99.

That one completely abandoned the past, plus I just thought it was hideous.

I really like their current one. Classic, clean, and with a color palette that has no problem acknowledging the past. A fun diversion....thanks!

I think we've touched on this before, but I'm in complete agreement with you on the Astros uniforms. It's a shame that the Killer B's teams, which were some of my favorite Astros teams ever, had to wear those terrible threads. Would they have gotten over the hump and won a WS if they'd stuck with the Tequila Sunrise or Blue Star unis? Hard to say, but I guess we'll never know for sure.

Although, to be fair, I was talking to someone recently who said those were his favorite Astros uniforms of all time. Can't remember who it was (I'm pretty sure it was online), but it goes to show you that even the worst uniforms have their champions. In this case, they just happen to be dead wrong!

I did just discover that it was in '97 or '98 (with those awful unis) that was the only year the franchise won 100+ games (102)! *sigh*

Since you're I charge, we'll just call you Commissioner! 😉 I liked the sleeveless uniform the A's had, but that might have been just before your time. They might have had them in KC as well. I remembered at Emporia State in mid 70's we wore yellow sani's, black stirrups, white pants, yellow pullover jersey with Emporia State across our chests. Black & Gold brim caps with ES inter connected. We got to go to the NAIA World Series in "76", we thought we were bad ass for sure. We finished 3rd in the country.

Loved reading your article, thanks for sharing it with your crew.

Been following the Braves this season, they soooo much fun to watch. Crazy team to watch up & down the lineup. 8 & 9 hole hitters are setting the table for the top of the order.

Thanks, Ed. I feel like the A's seem to have the magic touch when it comes to uniforms. Most of what they do seems to turn out well. If only they had as much luck in selecting home cities. Although, to be fair, I think the problem on that issue usually lies with the A's and not the cities.

I have no doubt that those ESU uniforms were very sharp. The school has a great color scheme, and your description does them justice. I don't know how close the match would be, but I can picture them in my mind and they look very cool.

The Braves are a good choice to follow this season. They've long been one of the premier organizations in baseball, but they really seem to be on a roll the last few years. That lineup is loaded with great young talent, and they've managed to lock most of those guys up long-term as well. And the pitching, most of which is homegrown, ain't too shabby either. Unless they do something really bone-headed, which isn't their M.O., they should be good for a long time. Back in Spring Training, I picked them to win it all, one of the few predictions I made this year that is aging well. I'd love to see them match up with Baltimore in the World Series. Those might be the two most entertaining teams in all of baseball this season.

Take care, sir, and as always, thanks for reading and talking baseball!
